Rosemary’s Letter

Military and Community Policy

When I heard Military Spouse of Strength is taking on a whole body approach to wellness, I had to reach out.  A holistic approach of focusing on body, mind and spirit has always been a good idea, but we now know its success is evidence-based.

I want to take up just a little space on your webpage to share with you how the Department of Defense can support your whole body approach to wellness.

At the core of it all is — Military OneSource

Military OneSource is a centralized assistance program – or one-stop shop – for all programs and resources available to our military families, available 24/7/365.

Military OneSource is both a vibrant website and a comprehensive program that provides confidential help and support, a call center, and on-line tools for anything you may need to lower stress, get or stay fit, and feel connected.

Military OneSource is really all about you and your military life:  deployment, relocation, spouse employment and education assistance, parenting, relationship issues, elder care, financial counseling, health and wellness coaching, and everyday issues.

Military OneSource is an amazing program that also offers around the clock confidential help through counselors who have a master’s degree or above, to eligible service or family members and survivors– that’s active duty, National Guard and reserve – without regard to activation status.  If you are eligible, you get 12 sessions, per person, per issue, at no cost.

The Military OneSource counselors receive about 1,600 calls a day – 98 percent answered within 20 seconds – and every call is important. Just dial 800-342-9647.

But wait, there’s more.

You’ll also find interactive features such as Webinars, blogs, moderated chats and discussion boards – 20 social media platforms.

From the website, you can order or download articles, books, videos, recordings, podcasts; online tools such as locators, self-assessments and calculators.

I cannot overemphasize the value of this wonderful service.  And I submit to you – there isn’t one among us who has not had the need to call someone at 2 a.m. for one worrisome reason or another.

One last thing before I sign off…Speaking of financial counseling and lowering stress, beginning this week, Military OneSource just made your tax-filing chore simple and easier, with no-cost professional tax help tailored to you, including military-specific tax breaks, deductions and reporting.  All military families are eligible and so are survivors of any era of conflict. So just call or go to the website.

So, help your whole body approach to wellness by tapping into this remarkable program and its resources, especially the personalized help.  As a military spouse of active duty, Reserve or National Guard it is available at no cost.

And help spread the word to other milspouses because together we are stronger.
